Office of the Provost/Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs
The Office of Academic Affairs at the College of Staten Island is pleased to announce a Provost’s Initiative for Faculty-Led Courses Abroad.
In collaboration with the Center for International Service funding will be available for:
- Faculty Site Visit in Preparation for Faculty Led Courses Abroad
- Faculty-Led Courses Abroad
The Center for International Service at the College of Staten Island, CUNY supports the Provost’s initiative to recruit qualified faculty to lead CSI students abroad for short courses. This request for proposals is designed to recruit faculty willing to organize, design, lead, administer and teach a course abroad as part of the “pilot program” in the winter and summer sessions of 2011.
One specific option would be to teach the course to be hosted by an existing CSI international partner, such as the American University of Rome (AUR), which will and can provide on-site support including housing, classrooms and logistical assistance. Click here for a listing of additional existing partner programs.
With administrative and enrollment support of the Center for International Service, these faculty-led course proposals should include ideas to attract a specific type of student, interested in taking a specific course abroad, for general education or major requirement.
In order to run, there must be a minimum enrollment of 10 students: by the deadline we would need 12-20 student applications. The target audience would be degree-seeking CSI students; however, if available, spaces could be granted in courses to other CUNY students to register on permit, with the faculty approval.
The CSI Faculty-Led Course Abroad Proposal Form can also be used to request seed money for faculty seeking to make a site visit to a location in which they are planning to offer a course.
Before students are taken abroad, more detailed information will be required and additional forms filled out. A Faculty-led Course Guide, a timeline for the process as well as other important information will be provided to you.
Please fill out and email CSI Faculty-Led Course Abroad Proposal Form along with your proposal to email@example.com no later then May 14, 2010. This form can also be used to request seed money for faculty seeking to make a site visit to a location in which they are planning to offer a course.
Applications are due May 14, 2010 and should be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org. Applicants will be notified by May 27, 2010.
The Provost’s Faculty-Led Courses Abroad Initiatives is given in support of building collaboration among CSI faculty and faculty from institutions abroad, and to increasing the opportunities for CSI students to study abroad. It is expected that each faculty member receiving the award will conduct a course abroad for one semester as a pilot, prepare an evaluation of the program, and if successful, continue to offer this opportunity to CSI students.
The selection committee, composed of 3 faculty who have participated/run study abroad programs and chaired by the special assistant to the Provost, will recommend a slate of candidates to the Provost.
