A detailed study of selected texts by Emerson, Thoreau, Hawthorne, Melville, and Whitman. The authors and their works are considered in relation to the social and philosophical backgrounds of their time. For English majors and minors, this is designated as a literature and American literature course.
Prerequisite: An ENH 200-level course or ENL 290
