POL 250 Latin American Politics
4 hours; 4 credits
This course introduces students to Latin American politics, concentrating on the region’s governance since the 20th century. Using a comparative case study analysis, it focuses on diverse political models, the region’s major protagonists, and the role of the state. Emphasis is placed on major theories and policies of economic development, authoritarianism and democracy, the military, U.S.-Latin American relations, and post-Cold War international relations.
Prerequisites: Passing the CUNY Reading and Writing Assessment Tests.
