Liberty Partnerships Program

We are searching for academically qualified sophomores, juniors and seniors to work with at-risk students in 4 Staten Island Public Schools - Curtis HS, New Dorp HS, Susan Wagner HS and Intermediate School 49. Liberty Partnerships Program is a New York State funded initiative to promote retention and postsecondary education.

Position: Intern

Duties:

  • Tutor, counsel, mentor and advocate for Liberty Partnerships Program students
  • Responsible for weekly contact of an average of 25 students in Caseload
  • Issue and collect student application forms
  • Submit bi-weekly contact forms, monthly counseling summaries and bi-monthly progress reports
  • Conduct weekly workshops with students
  • Attend trips and activities with participants and program occasional evenings and weekends
  • Attend a minimum of 10 TUTOR TRAINING SESSIONS at the College of Staten Island during Club Hours, Wednesdays and Thursdays
  • Attend bi-weekly intern meetings/staff development on Fridays
    from 2:30 pm until 5:00 pm

Qualifications: Must be sophomore, junior or senior with a minimum GPA of 2.5. Prefer education and sociology majors but open to all majors. Flexible schedule but must average of 15 hours a week, in the designated school, Monday through Friday between the hours of 8am and 3pm. Must be reliable and responsible. Good communication and organizational skills needed.

Salary: $10 per hour. Paid Tutor Training Sessions, Intern Meetings/Staff Development, trips and activities. Position is part time with a minimum commitment of one full academic year, September through June.
