English Department
English majors can choose from four concentrations: Literature, Writing, Linguistics, or Dramatic Literature. Each concentration requires 40 credits of coursework. All English majors take three courses in common (ENH 218: Introduction to the Study of Literature, ENH 365: World Literature in Contexts, and ENL 376: British and American Literary Traditions); the remaining seven courses vary according to the concentration. English majors thinking of a high school teaching career may also follow the Adolescence Education Sequence, which can be combined with any of the concentrations. The sequence includes ENL 323: Coming of Age Narratives, one of two linguistics course options, and a two-year series of courses in the Education department.
