Biography / Academic Interests
: Comfort B. Asanbe is an assistant professor of Psychology whose interest is in psychopathology and assessment of children at risk due to parental drug use. At The College of Staten Island, Prof. Asanbe teaches psychopathology and developmental psychology courses, placing emphasis on the interplay between biological and environmental factors on human development and abnormal behavior. She also participates in the standardization of psychological tests with the Harcourt Corporation. Most recently, she participated in the re-norming of the IQ test, the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children (WISC-IV). Comfort Asanbe is a licensed psychologist.
Scholarships / Publications
: With an interest in child psychopathology and assessment, Prof. Asanbe has conducted and published studies on the cognitive functioning of children with prenatal exposure to crack/cocaine. Dr. Asanbe has investigated the psychosocial adjustment of preschoolers and school-aged children who lived in methamphetamine-producing homes in rural Tennessee. Manuscripts from this study are currently in review. Professor Asanbe is currently conducting a study in collaboration with the New York State Institute for Basic Research in Developmental Disabilities (IBR) to investigate behavioral and psychosocial functioning of babies with abnormal auditory evoked response pattern at school age.
