Biography / Academic Interests :
Barbra Teater came to the College of Staten Island in 2014.  Her research on intergenerational work, social work theories and methods, health and wellbeing among older adults, and community-based and community arts programs compliment the work of other academics within the Social Work Department. Dr. Teater has obtained over $440,000 in research grants and consultancies. Her most recently funded projects include: (1) a snapshot of the social work academic workforce in the UK; (2) the extent to which an intergenerational program can change students’ (aged 11-12) attitudes towards older adults; (3) the development of a curriculum of teaching quantitative research methods to undergraduate students; and (4) the training of social work academics (across the UK) on how to teach quantitative research methods to undergraduate students (http://www.beds.ac.uk/mswc/about-us). Dr. Teater regularly works with local community organizations to conduct program evaluations with particular emphasis on health and wellbeing. She is the author of the bestselling social work text, “An Introduction to Applying Social Work Theories and Methods”.
