Biography / Academic Interests :
Ming Xia is a Professor of Political Science at the College of Staten Island and a doctoral faculty member at the CUNY Graduate Center. He previously taught at Fudan University (1988-1991) and served as a residential research fellow at the Sigur Center for Asian Studies at George Washington University (2003) and the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars (2004).  He worked as a visiting research fellow and a senior visiting research fellow in 2004 and 2011 respectively at the East Asian Institute, a visiting senior research fellow at the Asian Research Institute in 2012.  Both institutes are part of the National University of Singapore.

Prof. Xia’s research interest includes political governance and transition in China, organized crime, international political economy, globalization,  Asian women in politics, and a comparison of China and India.

Scholarship / Publications :
Ming Xia is the author of The Dual Developmental State: Development Strategy and Institutional Arrangements for China’s Transition (Ashgate 2000), The People’s Congresses and Governance in China: Toward a Network Mode of Governance (Routledge, 2008), and Political Venus: From Nothing Under My Name to Chinese Democracy (Hong Kong:  Morning Bell, 2012, in Chinese).  He is the co-editor of two special issues for The Chinese Law and Government on “The Battle between the Chinese Government and the Falun Gong” and “The Falun Gong: Qigong, Code of Ethics, and Religion” from M.E. Sharpe (1999). He co-edited The Crown of Thorn: Liu Xiaobo and the Nobel Peace Prize (Hong Kong: Morning Bell, 2010, in Chinese).

In addition to more than a hundred of articles he has published, Prof. Xia is one of the producers of a HBO documentary movie, "China's Unnatural Disaster, The Tears of Sichuan Province" 2009 (www.hbo.com/documentaries/chinas-unnatural-disaster-tears-of-sichuan-province). From 2009 to 2013, he has been consecutively included to “The Top 100 Chinese Public Intellectuals”.
