Biography / Academic Interests
: Nanette Salomon joined the Performing and Creative Arts Department twenty-one years ago as Assistant Professor of Art History. She has taught a full range of subjects within the history of Western Art including Ancient Art, Medieval and Renaissance Art, Baroque Art, Art and Society in America, Nineteenth Century Art, Twentieth Century Art and the Introduction to Art History Survey. Moreover, she teaches Women and the Fine Arts and The History of Prints. Aside from her responsibilities as a Professor she also curates the Art Gallery of the College of Staten Island producing four loan exhibitions a year.
Scholarships / Publications
: Nanette Salomon has published in a full range of subjects in the history of Western Art from the ancient Greek sculptures of the female nude to the twentieth-century Jewish woman artist Charlotte Salomon. Her field of specialization and the subject of both her books is the investigation of gender in seventeenth-century Dutch genre painting. Her work is always informed by a feminist perspective and has included a critique of the history of the history of art in those same terms.
