Biography / Academic Interests
: Dr. Cho joined the faculty of SASW in 2004 after completing her Ph.D. in Sociology and Women's Studies at the CUNY Graduate Center. In addition to her work as an academic, she is a contributing performance artist for the art collective Still Present Pasts: Korean Americans and the Forgotten War, which toured from January 2005 to May 2009. Her research interests include: collective trauma, war and militarism, migration, labor, sexuality, performance, and food. Professor Cho is also an active member of several community organizations such as Nodutdol for Korean Community Development and the Brooklyn Health Food Campaign.
Scholarship / Publications
: Dr. Cho is the author of the book, Haunting the Korean Diaspora: Shame, Secrecy, and The Forgotten War, published in 2008 by the University of Minnesota Press. She has also published several articles and creative pieces in the journals, Women's Studies Quarterly, Feminist Studies, Women and Performance, Qualitative Inquiry, and Cultural Studies-Critical Methodologies, and in the books, The Affective Turn: Theorizing the Social, edited by Patricia Clough with Jean Halley and Gendered Bodies: Feminist Perspectives from Birth to Death, edited by Judith Lorber and Lisa Jean Moore. She is currently working on a food memoir.
