Biography / Academic Interests
: Soon Ae Chun is an Associate Professor of Information Systems in the Business Department at the College of Staten Island, and is also a doctoral faculty member of The Ph.D Program in Computer Science at the CUNY Graduate Center.
Professor Chun’s areas of expertise are workflow, database, data security and privacy. Her research interest is applied informatics; this specialty addresses information technology problems and challenges arising in areas such as government, business, environmental science, health informatics and e-learning. Her current research projects include social media data extraction, integration and decision support using Semantic Web technologies. Her research has been sponsored by the NSF, NOAA and NJS.
She is on the editorial board for International Journal of Business and Systems Research, Information Polity Journal, International Journal of Electronic Government Research, Int. Journal of E-Planning Research, Int. Journal of Computational Models and Algorithms in Medicine and other organizations.
Professor Chun is a member of the IEEE, ACM, AIS, Digital Government Society and the Beta Gamma Sigma Honor Society.
Scholarship / Publications
: Professor Chun has published in security and database journals, such as Journal of Computer Security, IEEE Transactions on Dependable and Secure Computing, Journal of Distributed and Parallel Databases, Journal of Information Sciences, as well as applied informatics journals such as Information Polity, and International Journal of Computational Models and Algorithms in Medicine. She has published a number of conference papers and book chapters, and she edited several journal special issues and conference proceedings.
