Biography / Academic Interests
: Professor Smith-Peter has received a Fulbright for research in Moscow spring 2007. She has been a fellow at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey. She has received awards from the American Historical Association, IREX, Fulbright/Hays and the University of Illinois. She is the history department representative on the college-wide Undergraduate Curriculum Committee. She was awarded her Ph.D. in Russian history from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2001.
Scholarships / Publications
: Susan Smith-Peter works on issues of civil society and Russian regionalism. She has published articles in History of Science, Russian History/ Histoire Russe, Library History and elsewhere. At present she is working on a manuscript on provincial newspapers and the rise of a provincial public before 1861. Her next project deals with the creation of a creole society in Alaska. Creoles were the offspring of Russian men and Native women.
