Biography / Academic Interests :
Professor David Traboulay joined the faculty at CSI in 1971 and chaired the History department from 1976 to 1991.  He is currently coordinator of the CSI MA in Liberal Studies Program, a position he has held since 1997.  Professor Traboulay received the first CSI Presidential Award for excellence in Teaching in 2003.  He also received the CSI Dolphin Award for Teaching in 1984; and the City University of New York Teacher of Excellence Award in 1974. In 1993 he was a Fulbright Scholar and Visiting Professor to Delhi University in India.  Active as scholar, teacher, and administrator at CSI, Prof. Traboulay has taught regularly in the MALS Program at the Graduate Center, CUNY.

Scholarship / Publications :
Prof. Traboulay has written extensively on Colonial Latin America, especially on the encounter between Europeans and the indigenous peoples of America. In 1993 he published, Columbus and Las Casas: The Conquest and Christianization of America, 1492to 1577.  He has published several articles on the cultures and politics of India and Latin America.  Recently he has completed a book-length manuscript on Mahatma Gandhi’s Satyagraha and a biography of the West Indies cricketer Ramadhin.
