Biography / Academic Interests :
A background in studio art has always informed Siona Wilsonís approach to teaching the history of art. In the classroom she emphasizes the sociality of artistic practice and this stems from having worked collaboratively with other artists. Art is made in dialogue with the surrounding culture and frequently this involves controversy, conflict, and opposition. Professor Wilsonís teaches undergraduate classes in American Art Since 1945, Nineteenth-Century Art, Twentieth-Century Art, Modern Art in Latin America, Contemporary Art, the History of Photography as well as survey classes in the History of Art until the Renaissance and the History of Art from the Renaissance. She also team-teaches a class on Issues in Contemporary Photography with the Associate Professor of Photography Beatrix Reinhardt.

Scholarship / Publications :
Professor Wilson has published on issues on sexual difference in post-war and contemporary art in relation to practices of photography, experimental film and performance.††A guiding interest in this work has been an engagement with debates about the political significance of aesthetic practices that is informed by continental philosophy, feminist theory and postcolonial theory.††She has published articles and review essays in journals such Art History, Oxford Art Journal, October, Parallax, Third Text, and Womenís Studies Quarterly. She is currently completing a book on feminist art in 1970s exhibition reviews for the international art magazine Art Review.
