Biography / Academic Interests :
Ting Yuan, Ed.D., is Assistant Professor of the Early Childhood Education Program at the College of Staten Island, City University of New York. She teaches courses related to early childhood language and literacy development. Before joining the College of Staten Island, Yuan served as an instructor at Teachers College, Columbia University for three years, teaching early childhood practicum and literacy education courses. She was also a research associate at Teachers College EdLab, as the resident expert designing online courses and professional development opportunities on digital literacies and cyberbullying. She graduated from East China University of Political Science and Law, Shanghai, China, where she studied English Literature and Law, and taught English reading and writing classes to early childhood and elementary school children in Shanghai for three years.

Scholarship / Publications :
From a sociocultural perspective, Yuan’s research examines innovative curricular practices in urban school settings, including digital literacies in school curricula and multimodality in early childhood language and literacy practices. She further studies how children and teachers from diverse backgrounds (re)shape curricular practices. Her work can be found in Childhood Education and has been presented at AERA, LRA, NCTE, and IRA conferences. She is a recipient of Teacher College Dissertation Grant and NCTE Cultural Diversity Grant.
