Staten Island is one of the five boroughs in New York City which also includes Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn and the Bronx. Staten Island has a population of approximately 443,000. The island is 14 miles long and 8 miles wide and is mainly residential. Staten Island residents commute to Manhattan by ferry, which takes twenty-five minutes and goes to lower Manhattan; by express bus, which may take over an hour and goes to mid-town Manhattan; and by car.

The College of Staten Island (CSI) is the only City University of New York college located on Staten Island. It offers students an unusual opportunity to experience life in New York City, while enjoying quite suburban neighborhoods and studying on a large and beautiful 204 – acre campus, completed in 1994. The campus is located in the Willowbrook section of Staten Island. (Click here to see map in pdf format that needs Adobe Acrobat Reader) A Loop Bus provides transportation within campus.
