This
visit brings a group of members from the
Education and Youth Council of the Municipality
of Copenhagen to the College of Staten
Island in November 2003. The purpose of
the visit is to explore New York City
issues in context; to meet with counterparts;
to visit exemplary programs; to establish
the potential for on-going dialogue; and
to view the challenges of building an
informed society in the "global village".
This
program has a "case study" approach
to looking at the community of Staten
Island and Manhattan. Participants will
examine how Staten Island and Manhattan
addresses the local challenges and will
understand how educational authorities
view education within the city of New
York. Colleagues at the College of Staten
Island and participants from Copenhagen
will meet City authorities and view two
special initiatives in Harlem and Soho.
