Supplemental Instruction

Supplemental Instruction leaders are tutors who attend a specific course section, take notes and follow the class material. The SI leader assumes the role of the model student. Leaders assist students by integrating course content with learning strategies and guide them through the more difficult material. The goal is to provide students with the tools and knowledge that are necessary at all levels of college coursework. Students enrolled in sections with SI leaders receive a solid foundation for academic success.

SI leaders are currently assigned to sections of psychology, CORE 100, astronomy, geology, math and English.

If you are an instructor and would like an SI Leader assigned to your course section, call Richard Vento, Assistant Director, Instructional Support Services/Tutoring at (718) 982.3962.

Tutor Training

The College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) is a nationally recognized institution dedicated to improving the level of tutoring services in higher education.  CSI is a proud member of the CRLA, and together we strive to provide students with peer tutors who are highly skilled, patient and knowledgeable.

The CSI Committee on Tutoring and Supplemental Instruction is responsible for creating, scheduling and presenting tutor training workshops throughout the semester.  The schedule below is updated each semester with new topics and various presenters.

For more information on the CRLA, visit their website at www.CRLA.net.   If you have any questions regarding tutor training or have an idea for a future workshop topic, contact Richard Vento, Assistant Director, Instructional Support Services/Tutoring.
