The CUNY Teacher Academy
at the College of Staten Island offers:
- Four years
of free tuition and no fees for students who graduate
and teach at least two years in New York City public
schools
- Paid internships
each year to work with high school or middle school
students
($1,600 each year)
- Study with
exceptional faculty in science and mathematics
- Hands-on
experiences in New York City public middle schools or
high schools
- A full-time
teaching position in a New York City middle school or
high school after successful completion of the program
- Opportunities
to do research in math or science with CUNY faculty
- For a select
group of Teacher Academy graduates, support for a master's
degree in your field at a CUNY college.

Admissions Criteria
- We seek
students with demonstrated talent in science and mathematics
as well as a sincere desire to teach. Students may demonstrate
these characteristics in a number of ways - through
their academic record, through performance on SATs,
through the rigor of their high school curriculum (Advanced
Placement courses, honors courses), through independent
research, through complementary coursework (in College
Now or university summer programs), or through other
outside activities (tutoring or mentoring). The minimum
requirement is an 85 College Admissions Average, strong
SAT scores, and a college preparatory program in science
and mathematics.
- Students seeking
to teach mathematics should be prepared to enter calculus
in their first year.
