The Office of Institutional Research and Assessment (OIRA)

Our Mission

The Office of Institutional Research and Assessment strives to support a "culture of evidence" at the College, where the processes of evaluation, planning and change are supported by valid and reliable information.

Our Goals

  • conducts descriptive and inferential statistical analyses using College, University and national data
  • conducts or helps to facilitate qualitative research, including survey research, to add depth and richness to quantitative analyses
  • maintains a data warehouse containing longitudinal information on students, academic programs and personnel
  • consults with College units, in association with the Associate Provost for Institutional Effectiveness, on assessment and evaluation activities including methodology and best practices, and assists with activities such as survey design and implementation, statistical analysis of data, and report preparation
  • coordinates the external reporting of institutional statistics to state and federal agencies, accrediting agencies, national publications, non-profit associations, and other organizations
  • prepares descriptive and analytical reports for use by campus policy-makers and policy-making bodies (e.g., the annual Institutional Profile), and maintains web sites to disseminate these materials
  • oversees and maintains the College's Assessment Resource Library and its contents including reference materials, completed assessment projects, supporting data and documentation
  • represents the College at national, regional and CUNY assessment and institutional research events and forums
