Program in Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies
Welcome! Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies (formerly Women's Studies) is an Interdisciplinary Major and Minor.
Students take courses in multiple departments at the College to complete this degree.
The Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Program is dedicated to the serious study of women's experience, gender as social and cultural construct, and the role of sexuality in shaping gendered experience. The program provides an excellent interdisciplinary education which engages theory and scholarship in all three related interdisciplinary fields. It aims to produce majors who have developed intellectually both within the content area of Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies and as liberal studies scholars with outstanding critical abilities and civic engagement. More broadly within the College, the Program provides a key forum for cross-departmental faculty development, creating a wider intellectual environment on the campus than departmental communities can provide.
With their preparation in critical thinking and issues of gender and sexuality diversity, WGS majors and minors have lately pursued career paths in everything from advocacy to entrepreneurship.
