Through the e-Permit web-site, students who may not be able to take a needed course at their home campus can find listings and descriptions of similar courses at other CUNY colleges. Newly installed software will enable students to easily determine schedules and availability of courses elsewhere in the University.

As in the past, approval of permit requests remains in the hands of faculty advisors at a student's home college. If a request is turned down, students will be notified electronically of the reason for the disapproval. Students will pay for an approved course when they pay for other courses at their home college.

Prior to taking courses at another institution a student should inquire at the host college for registration dates and procedures governing permit/ transient students. Issuance of this permit does not guarantee enrollment at the host college.

A student must obtain approval in advance to take courses at another college if they are to be credited toward the degrees at CSI. Students are reminded that they must complete a minimum of thirty credits through courses taken at CSI, including at least half (50%) of the major courses, to be eligible for graduation.

Tuition for courses taken on permit at other CUNY colleges must be paid at CSI by the assigned due date. The bill from this registration, together with the approved permit will enable student's to register at another CUNY college.

FOLLOW THESE STEPS:

You can complete a CUNY Permit Form by accessing the following page on the CUNY Web site at www.cuny.edu. and click the "Log In" button at the left. Next, register by clicking on "Register" and follow the directions to obtain an ID and password. Once registered, a personalized cuny.edu homepage will appear with an e-Permit link prominently displayed. Follow the instructions for filing a permit request on the e-Permit site.

To be eligible to file for a Permit, you must:
a. be matriculated and currently in attendance
b. if an undergraduate student, have a cumulative GPA of 2.00
c. if a graduate student, have a cumulative GPA of 3.00
d. not have any stops on your record
e. have all required immunizations completed

Permits will not be issued to the following:
a. Non-degree students
b. A readmitted matriculated student who is not currently enrolled or who does not need the permit courses for graduation.
c. An incoming newly matriculated student who requests a permit for the semester or summer session preceding his/her effective date of admission

Courses will be transferred to CSI with the grade assigned by the host college and included in the CSI GPA. The number of credits transferred for each course will be the value assigned by the host college. (i.e., ENG 151 is 4 credits at CSI, an equivalent course taken on permit is 3 credits at the host college; upon transfer the student is awarded 3 credits for ENG 151 on their CSI transcript with the host college's name duly noted.)
