 Entering Freshmen

Admissions Criteria for Entering Freshmen

• A high overall high school average (a minimum of an 85 College Admissions Average)
• A college preparatory program in science and mathematics
• High grades in mathematics and science courses
• High Regents scores in mathematics and science subjects
• High SAT scores
• Excellent recommendations that include at least one from a math or science teacher
• Students entering the Teacher Education Honors Academy at CSI must be prepared to take calculus in their first semester. Successful completion of a pre-calculus course in high school is important
• A strong desire to be a teacher in a high need New York City high school or middle school

Admissions Process for Entering Freshmen to the Teacher Education Honors Academy at the College of Staten Island

You must apply to the College of Staten Island by completing a CUNY application form and by listing the College of Staten Island as your first choice.

You may apply to CUNY online by going to www.cuny.edu and clicking on Admissions. You will need to register for a CUNY Portal Username and Password in order to submit an online application

As part of your application to CUNY, you must request that your SAT scores and a high school transcript be sent to:

In addition to the CUNY application, you must submit a supplementary application for entering freshmen to the Teacher Education Honors Academy at the College of Staten Island. This supplementary application includes an information statement, forms for 2 essays and forms for 2 recommendation letters. Please read this application carefully. When you have completed the supplementary application, either email (as an attachment) to TeacherAcademy@csi.cuny.edu, or
mail it to:
