 Using CSI's Web Based Email System

Follow the steps below to access your Imail account:

1. Open your internet browser.

2. In the URL type:   http://mail.csi.cuny.edu/

3. In the USERID box, type in your p-mail USERID.

4. In the PASSWORD box, type in spring02
a. Expire Page Views - if checked times out the page.  Note:  Imail will time out if not in use for a period of time.  If you are typing extended emails you should type them in MS Word and then paste it into the Compose Page.
b. Remember userid & password - Do Not select this option if you share your computer as it will always log you in.

5. Click Logon or hit the enter key.  You will be directed to the Welcome Page.

6. Click Continue to enter your mailbox.  The next screen is the Main Menu (home), from here you can access your mail, control your mailboxes, create address books and customize your account.

7. The first thing you want to do is change your password.
a. Select the down arrow next to Personal Account Options.
b. Select Change Password from the list.


c. Enter your spring02 in the OLD PASSWORD box.
d. Type in a new password in the PASSWORD box.  Please make it something that you won't forget as it cannot be reset immediately.
e. Retype your new password in the CONFIRM box.
f. Click Save.
g. Click MENU on the Change Password Status window.  Clicking Back will allow you to return to the Change My Password window.

Now you can customize your email.

Adding a Signature to your emails.  This information will appear at the end of your messages.



If you will be unable to respond to your emails (i.e.: vacations) you can set up a vacation message that will be sent to each person that sends you an email.  To activate the option type a message in the box; to deactivate the option leave the box empty.


Edit Your Preferences by clicking into the option button, don't forget to save when you are done.  The customary preferences have been selected in the graphic below


You can create mailboxes to organize your messages.  Go to Personal Account Options and then select Manage Mailboxes. To create a mailbox type a name in the NAME box and click CREATE or hit enter.  You can also rename and delete mailboxes from this window.  Caution: When you delete a mailbox you will delete any emails that are in that mailbox.  You do not get a warning notice.  All mailboxes will appear on the Main Menu window.   


You can move emails from your Main Box to other boxes by clicking into the options box to select the email, choosing the mailbox from the list box, and clicking on Move to.

The easiest way to add names to your address book is from the Compose Page.  Separate all addresses by a comma.  Once you have typed them in click the options box to add the names to your address book.  Thereafter the names will be listed in your address book.  If you are sending to multiple people you will need to select them individually and add them one at a time.  Remember that the Welcome Page has a list of groups that you can send broadcast emails to.  Note:  If you are sending an email to a postbox account you will need to type in the full address postbox.csi.cuny.edu.  If you are sending an email to a person that has an Imail account you only have to enter the person's Userid.


To send an attachment you will need to tell Imail where the file is saved by clicking Browse.  Once you have found the file attach it to the email by clicking Attach.
