The mission of the Office of the Associate Provost for Undergraduate Studies and Academic Programs is to foster student success. This is best accomplished by working collaboratively across all divisions and at every level within the College. CSI has established a culture that empowers its faculty and staff to employ its collective expertise in reaching this goal.
The Office of the Associate Provost for Undergraduate Studies and Academic Programs oversees initiatives that support and enhance the undergraduate experience. Based on national literature that indicates a solid foundation and first year experience is key to success, we have made improving the First Year Experience a priority. Towards that end, The College of Staten Island is currently participating in the Foundations of Excellence Program through the John N. Gardner Institute for Excellence in Undergraduate Education.
In addition, the Office works to sponsor and enhance high impact practices, such as opportunities to participate in undergraduate research, diversity/global learning through study abroad and other programs, and learning communities. Where possible, these initiatives build on one another, as when forty CSI students presented their undergraduate research projects during a study abroad experience in Morocco that included participation in the International Taurine Conference (April 2012).
CSI’s efforts to better prepare students for success have also resulted in a special focus on access programs in the STEM areas, and many of our CSTEP students have been statewide winners at the annual conference.
On the left sidebar, there is a link to a list of reporting units and programs. All of the units, programs, and/or special initiatives that report to this office contribute to the vitality of CSI as it fulfills its mission and enhance student experiences.
Our newsletter each semester will keep you updated on all our initiatives and activities.
