Verrazano School
 Current CSI and Transfer Students

Who is Eligible?

Current CSI students or transfer students may be eligible for admission into The Verrazano School at CSI if they meet the following criteria:

  • Passing of, or exemption from, all three CUNY Assessment Tests;
  • Full time enrollment in a baccalaureate program at CSI;
  • Earned a minimum of a 3.0 GPA at CSI or another accredited institution;
  • Students with 11 or fewer credits must have earned a minimum 87 average in high school or score a minimum score of 1000 on the SAT and have a 3.0 GPA at CSI or previous college;
  • Students with 12 - 35 credits at CSI or another accredited institution must have a 3.0 GPA;
  • Students must be able to enroll in at least two Verrazano-designated courses during their first semester in the program.

Please note: Students that will have completed 36 or more credit hours at CSI or another accredited institution by the end of the current semester are eligible for admission into The Verrazano School only on a case-by-case basis, with the Director's approval.

Students accepted into the program with over 36 credits are required to fulfill all of the requirements that a student transferring in with under 36 credits must fulfill. Students are specifically required to do the following: maintain a 3.0 GPA or higher and full-time status; take at least three Verrazano courses; fulfill all Career Academy requirements except Pathfinder (a freshman year requirement); attend four VELAs; complete 30 hours of community service (Class of 2013 and later); fulfill all requirements of Verrazano students in the major (Class of 2013 and later); attend one personal meeting with the Director.

If I am a current CSI student, how do I apply to The Verrazano School?
  • Submit a completed Verrazano Supplemental Application and two letters of reference accompanied by the recommendation form to The Verrazano School Office. Please see below for the Verrazano Supplemental Application.
If I am a transfer student, how do I apply to The Verrazano School?
  • Apply for admission to CUNY online at www.cuny.edu/apply. We encourage you to indicate College of Staten Island as your first choice on the CUNY application.
  • Submit a completed Verrazano Supplemental Application and two letters of reference accompanied by the recommendation form to The Verrazano School Office. Please see below for the Verrazano Supplemental Application.
When Can I Apply?
  • Applications from current CSI students and transfer students are accepted each spring until May 15 for admission for the following fall.  Full-time students with fewer than 36 credits who have a 3.0 for the fall semester or anticipate a cumulative GPA of 3.0 by the end of the academic year are invited to apply.  Applications must be submitted by May 15, but the review of applications will not be completed until the spring semester grades are official.  Upon receipt of the spring semester grades a final evaluation of applications will be conducted and decision letters will be mailed soon thereafter.
