Come learn how to use DegreeWorks - an advisement tool on the CUNY Portal that can help you keep you keep track of your degree requirements and keep you on track to graduate on time! Maybe you've seen DegreeWorks before but never realized everything that it can do. You will also learn about how to declare your major and what it means once you have declared.

VELA: Salary Negotiation for Women - How to negotiate your first salary out of college

Women continue to earn 77 cents for every $1 that men earn. Part of the reason for this is women at all levels are not negotiating for the pay they may eligible for beginning with the early stages of their careers.
In this workshop designed for women in their junior and senior years, Suzanne Grossman of the Career and Scholarship Center will guide you through tools for how to negotiate your first salary and what women specifically need to know when entering into a negotiation.
You will learn:
-Startling statistics about women and negotiation
-Websites to research salary ranges
-What you need to know before you receive a job offer, and more!

VELA: The Art of the Business Meal/Etiquette Luncheon

Location: Park Cafe, Building 1C (Campus Center)
This VELA-certified event is geared toward juniors and seniors and will help you learn about business dining etiquette. Many employers now incorporate a lunch or dinner into the interview process, and this event will help you become prepared to put your best foot forward for your interview or professional meeting. You'll learn interviewing skills and more all while enjoying a delicious meal.
This event is presented by the Career and Scholarship Center, and the $5 registration fee includes soup, salad, choice of 3 entrees, coffee, tea, and dessert. There is limited seating, so you should register as soon as possible at the Career and Scholarship Center in 1A-105. Registration forms are also available in the Verrazano Office but must be returned to 1A-105.

VELA: CSI Physical Therapy Graduate Program and Careers in Physical Therapy

This event is designed for students considering a career in Physical Therapy. Professor Chiacchiero from the Physical Therapy Department will help you learn more about a degree that would guarantee you a rewarding and well-paying career after graduation. Professor Chiacchiero can answer questions you may have about career options with a Physical Therapy degree and the Physical Therapy graduate program here at CSI. A second-year graduate student in the Physical Therapy program will also be available to discuss their experiences in the program.

Come learn about study abroad opportunities that exist for CSI students. This event will be held in 2A-206, the Center for International Studies, and will feature information about programs, scholarship opportunities, and the application process.

VELA: High Performance Computing at CSI
Date: Thursday, March 4th

Location: 1M-206
Dr. Kress, Vice President of Technology at CSI, will be talking about Athena, a high-speed computer located on campus that is several times more powerful than any computer system within the campuses of the City University of New York. It is capable of completing research projects -- such as studying Staten Island transportation patterns, migratory bird trends and the effects of global warming -- 10 times faster than it used to take! Dr. Kress will also discuss research opportunities for Verrazano students, so if you are interested in doing research on campus this is a great event for you!
