The Verrazano School
Verrazano professional development workshops and activities help students become better prepared to apply for internships, scholarships, fellowships, job opportunities, and graduate school. The following requirements are related to The Verrazano School’s goals of advancing career opportunities through professional development and supporting development of strong oral and written communication skills.
Verrazano Professional Development Requirements
- All Verrazano students attend a Professional Communication Workshop
- All Verrazano students attend a Resume Development Workshop
- All Verrazano students develop a professional resume and have it approved by Joanne Hollan in the Career and Scholarship Center
- All Verrazano students meet with Joan DiMeo Lyons for an Introduction to Career Planning

All Professional Communication Workshops will be held in 5N-112 from 2:30-3:30.
Steps to Completing the Resume Development Process
1) Attend the Resume Workshop to which you have been assigned (see below).
2) Develop your draft resume and email it to Joanne Hollan (joanne.hollan@csi.cuny.edu) by the date indicated below. The subject line of your email must be "Verrazano Resume - First and Last Name (insert your name). You must Cc Katie Geschwendt, the Verrazano Coordinator, on your email to Joanne Hollan, and her email is katie.geschwendt@csi.cuny.edu
3) Make any recommended edits and resubmit your resume for approval by the date indicated below.
4) Schedule a meeting and meet with Joan DiMeo Lyons for an Introduction to Career Planning by the date indicated below. This meeting takes place after your resume has been approved. You can schedule this meeting by visiting the Career and Scholarship Center in 1A-105 or calling the Center at 718.982.2300. You must identify yourself as a first-year Verrazano student who is scheduling the Introduction to Career Planning meeting with Joan DiMeo Lyons.

Note: After your resume has been approved, please upload it to the Optimal Résumé website. You may do this by creating an Optimal Résumé account using the code CS105. Please indicate that you are a Verrazano student in the appropriate field while setting up the account.
For assistance with setting up an Optimal Résumé account, you can go in person to the Career and Scholarship Center (1A-105). If you choose, you may bring your résumé on a flash drive and upload it when you create the account in the office.
