The Verrazano School
 Professional Development

Verrazano professional development workshops and activities help students become better prepared to apply for internships, scholarships, fellowships, job opportunities, and graduate school.  The following requirements are related to The Verrazano School’s goals of advancing career opportunities through professional development and supporting development of strong oral and written communication skills.

Be sure to add the required dates to your calendar.  Students who do not attend these required dates are, unfortunately, not eligible to remain in good standing with The Verrazano School.

Verrazano Professional Development Requirements

  • All Verrazano students attend a Professional Communication Workshop
  • All Verrazano students attend a Resume Development Workshop
  • All Verrazano students develop a professional résumé and have it approved by a Career Coach in the Career and Scholarship Center
  • All Verrazano students meet with a Career Coach for an Introduction to Career Planning

Steps to Completing the Resume Development Process

1) Attend the Resume Workshop to which you have been assigned.

2) Develop your draft resume and upload it to Symplicity by the deadline indicated after your attendance at the Resume Workshop.  You will have one week to do this.  The title of your resume must be “Verrazano Resume – First and Last Name (insert your name).” 

3) After your resume has been submitted, it will be reviewed by a Career Coach.  It will either be approved or you will be notified to make edits.  You must make any recommended edits and resubmit your resume for approval on Symplicity by the date indicated.  Make any recommended edits and resubmit your resume for approval on Symplicity by the date indicated.

4) After your resume has been approved on Symplicity, you must schedule a meeting and meet with a Career Coach for an Introduction to Career Planning by the date indicated.  This meeting takes place after your resume has been approved, but you should schedule your meeting immediately after your resume has been approved.  You can schedule this meeting by visiting the Career and Scholarship Center in 1A-105 or calling the Center at 718.982.2300.  You must identify yourself as a first-year Verrazano student who is scheduling the Introduction to Career Planning meeting.
