CUNY Place of Assembly (PA) Initiative
This project will secure PA Permits for 21 spaces throughout the campus. PA spaces are large rooms capable of holding 74 or more persons. CUNY hired a consultant - WASA Architects to survey approx. 76 large rooms of which only 21 qualified as Places of Public Assembly. CUNY is now in the process of securing a consultant to prepare the required drawings and applications for the NYC Dept. of Buildings.
2A-314 Administrative Computer Center- Replacement of HVAC System
GT Consultants have been retained to design a new efficient air conditioning and heating system for the computer room of 2,714 Sq. feet occupying the entire West wing of the Third floor of Building 2A. The new system consists of Two (2) 30 Tons of AC Mitsubishi units. The Six existing noisy standalone AC units have been running since 2005 and have reached the end of their useful life.
Wooded Part Site Improvements
Following the Cooper, Robertson & Partners masterplan guidelines, the Campus Planning Office is working on a design to improve the wooded park area, with a holistic approach to encouraging recreation and site appeal including lawn area, planting and sidewalks. Posing a safety hazard in the wooded park area a number of deceased and/or dead trees were cleared. As an alternative to disposing of the dead trees it is the College initiative to re-use the salvageable logs and have them milled and converted into benches to enhance recreational opportunities in urban landscape, embracing sustainability and an environmentally friendly campus footprint, thus in a new and re-purposed form, pure and bold in shape and look as a reminder of what they once were. The College is committed to enhancing campus life and the Campus Planning Office is working to secure quotes and funding to render this endeavor possible.
Site Hardscape and Gutters and Leaders
Stantec has been retained to review and design new front plazas in the Academic Quads to address current deteriorating conditions. The design of the new plazas will address grade conditions, provide ADA access and improve the overall drainage. Gutters and Leaders with a storm water detention system will be included allowing the College to connect the retention tanks for irrigation in the future.
Permanent Above Ground Fuel Oil Tank
Loring Engineers has been selected to design an above ground fuel oil tank with enclosure in Parking Lot seven. Due to leakage in the underground tank and vault system, a portion of the project will include decommissioning the four (4) below grade tanks and backfilling to allow for vehicle parking.
Soccer Field Reconstruction
Abel Bainnson Butz, LLP Consultants have been selected to develop design and construction documents as well as provide administration services for upgrading the College Soccer Field. The work shall include installation of a 1000 seat set of bleachers with an accessible ramp and 12 accessible spaces, a press box, a public address system, concrete walkways, lighting, perimeter fence and gates. Design kick-off meeting pending design procurement review of selected consultant.
Loop Road Reconstruction
H2M has been retained to perform a site assessment of the Campus Loop Roadway conditions and drainage systems report and produce a concept plan for re-aligning a portion of the Loop Road East and Parking Field West identify traffic calming measures and locations. Including in the assessment is a phasing plan for road improvement. Draft report due October 30, 2015
Building 2M CUNY 2020
As a continuation of the adaptive reuse of building 2M, CSI was awarded funds to construct offices, collaborative spaces and graduate studies areas to support the College’s collaborative Center for Big Data Analysis proposal. Work anticipated beginning in Spring 2016.
High Performance Computer Facility
This project provided for the total upgrade of the office suite portion of the facility of 2,382 sq. feet. The work included replacement of the single glass pane windows with insulated glass windows, a new central HVAC system, eight new hi tech work stations & new carpeting. Roof Replacement 1P
In August 2015, work commenced to replace all flat roofs on the 1P Performing Arts Center building. The work will include painting of the railings as well as the installation of additional railings, and replacement of the buildings lightening protection system. Work is expected to be completed by mid-November 2015.
Roof Replacement 1C
In August 2015, work commenced to replace all flat roofs on the 1C Campus Center building. The work will include replacement of the copings, painting of the railings around the Rotunda roof, and replacement of the buildings lightening protection system. Work is expected to be completed by mid-November 2015.
Roof Replacement 1L
In September 2015, work commenced to replace all flat roofs on the 1L Library building. The work will include replacement of the copings, painting of the railings and cornice around the perimeter of the building, and replacement of the buildings lightening protection system. Work is expected to be completed by Mid-November 2015.
Building 2M Adaptive Reuse Phase I
As the first phase of the adaptive reuse of the Building 2M, construction will begin in Mid-November on the second floor of the south portion of the building. This adaptive reuse of the 1940’s building will construct two new entrances, one with handicap accessibility and an elevator, new classrooms, faculty meeting spaces. The Construction is scheduled to be completed within 13 months.
