FCPD Initiatives

A FIG, or Faculty Interest Group, is an intentional group of instructors with a mutual interest in a particular aspect of teaching and learning. FIGs are open to all full-time faculty and part-time adjunct instructors. They are intended to foster an environment of cooperation and collaboration within the teaching community at CSI and explore, enhance, and improve scholarly teaching, research, and scholarship practices.

The Online/Hybrid Pedagogy FIG is a place for faculty to post questions, share resources, and/or offer advice to colleagues about online and hybrid course pedagogy. The goal moving forward is for the faculty participants to take full ownership of the FIG and create a fully collaborative space.

This Faculty Interest Group aims to encourage faculty to engage in reading a common text of topics impacting the landscape of higher education.  Some titles on the cyber shelf include:

The Student Success Institute is sponsored by Academic Affairs/Undergraduate Studies & Student Success and the Faculty Center for Professional Development. The institute supports adjunct faculty members in developing and implementing instructional strategies that support students’ academic success. Student Success Fellows who are accepted to participate in the institute meet with faculty facilitators, as well as with guest faculty presenters, to read and discuss research on enhancing students’ sense of belonging and supporting students’ learning-to-learn skills (e.g., note-taking, group participation). They develop student success strategies to implement with their own students, and share their strategies and results with other faculty members.

Center Info Hub:

The Information Hub was created in the Learning Management System for teaching faculty - both full and part time - and was designed to be a fully enclosed, secure, "one stop shop" place for faculty to go 24/7 and access the items needs for all of their online course and pedagogical training needs, as well as, Blackboard training materials and workshops, emergency request and general help discussion boards, and real-time help chat options.

 

All teaching faculty are automatically enrolled as members of the Info Hub at the beginning of each semester and instantly have access to all of our calendars, downloads, self-help and other training materials, as well as our weekly training schedules and notices via the Info Hub link located within the Organizations box of their Blackboard Homepage.
