The Office of Academic Affairs oversees the College's core missions of research and education. These begin within the College's seventeen academic departments, which are grouped into the Division of Humanities and Social Sciences and the Division of Science and Technology. The College also houses research institutes and centers that promote interdisciplinary collaboration; these include the CUNY Institute for Macromolecular Assemblies, the Center for Developmental Neuroscience and Developmental Disabilities, the Center for Environmental Science, and the Center for the Study of Staten Island: Staten Island Project. The Discovery Institute promotes the professional development of K-12 teachers. The Library provides essential support to the research and teaching of all of the above, while the Office of Sponsored Programs and Research (OSPR) facilitates the work of the faculty with outside funding agencies.

Academic Affairs takes a coordinated approach to education at CSI, meeting the needs of our diverse student body through the following offices: Testing; Academic Advisement; the Office of Academic Support; Evening, Summer, and Weekend Sessions; Honors College; Human Resources; and Continuing Education. The Registrar's office tracks enrollment and keeps student records, while the Office of Institutional Research and Assessment provides Academic Affairs with the data for informed decision making.

Finally, the reach of the Office of Academic Affairs extends beyond the campus limits through the work of CSI's Center for International Service and the Small Business Development Center.
