Welcome to the Office of the Provost

Gary W. Reichard has a career in higher education spanning over 40 years.  He began his academic career at The Ohio State University, where he earned tenure in 1977.  Subsequently, he held faculty and academic administrative positions at the University of Delaware, the University of Maryland, College Park, and Florida Atlantic University.  He has chaired History Departments at both The Ohio State University and Florida Atlantic University. From 1994 – 2009, Dr. Reichard held various academic leadership positions in the California State University system, including Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs (Academic Personnel) and then Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs at California State University, Long Beach, and Executive Vice Chancellor and Chief Academic Officer in the CSU Chancellor’s Office.  After retiring from the California State University System office in 2009, Dr. Reichard held a succession of interim Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs positions through the Registry for College and University Presidents, including most recently at California State University, Dominguez Hills, and the California State University, Maritime Academy. 

Dr. Reichard holds a BA from the College of Wooster, an MA from Vanderbilt University and a PhD in History from Cornell University.  He has published numerous scholarly books, articles, book chapters, and reviews, as well as delivered many scholarly papers and presentations.  He recently served a three-year term as an elected member of the Executive Board of the Organization of American Historians.
