What is STEP?

STEP is a Saturday enrichment program that services students from Staten Island in grades 7 through 12, who demonstrate an interest in and have a potential for a career in the fields of science, health, engineering, technology, and the licensed professions come to the College of Staten Island and engage in science, math, computers, communication arts, PSAT, SAT, and college prep with an interdisciplinary learning approach. The STEP Program focuses on helping students to build self-esteem and develop positive behaviors toward learning.  We believe that students will begin to understand the processes of learning science and math by encouraging them to strive and aim for good grades throughout their secondary school years.  Students will then have a broader range of choices when pursuing a career.

The New York State Education Department funds the STEP project through the Bureau of Career Opportunity Programs; however, STEP is supported and administered through the Office of Academic Affairs.
