Morocco

Each country has its own history: historical facts, events and important milestones that gave the country its true historical value. The history of a country is one of the events considered worthy of remembrance, which perfectly applies to Morocco. With several dynasties that have succeeded one another over the years: the Idrisside dynasty, the Almoravid dynasty, the Almohad dynasty, the Merinid dynasty, the Saadian dynasty and the Alaouite dynasty, Morocco has gained international consideration as a multicultural country, with several types of heritage recognized as World Heritage by UNESCO. Morocco is one of the go-to destinations for discovery lovers, the most fascinated by nature, history, the art of living and Moroccan hospitality. The experience gained during their journeys in Morocco leave them pleasantly satisfied with their stay.

Morocco's culinary heritage embraces the deep-rooted traditions and cultural variety of the country. Couscous, Tajine, Pastilla, Mrouzia, and R'fissa, are some of the emblematic dishes of the country that you can’t resist.  Subtly composed of a wide variety of striking flavours and scents, Moroccan cuisine draws its originality from a combination between Berber, Arab-Andalusian, and Jewish culinary traditions.

Alumni

"What really made the trip and learning experiences unique were the professors and site visits. I’ve never had classes that were as thought provoking as the lectures we had. I had never thought as critically, either. I felt challenged and that I had to think of things from every perspective. This may have been because I’m a business major, but I think the professors made the classes interesting. If I had to take this at my home university, I don’t think I would have learned or had been engaged as much. There is something about experiential learning that is unique and lasting." - Cinara Foor, University of Akron, J Term

Medical Internship in Morocco

Overview

This program offers a unique learning opportunity for students who are interested in pursuing a career in the medical field.  By completing a medical internship abroad, aspiring doctors can gain valuable exposure to the medical field in a setting they likely won’t find in the United States.  Internships are an essential requirement for almost any medical degree and they are part of the process of becoming a professional.

Students will participate in an observational internship in hospitals in both Fes and Marrakesh, Morocco.

In Fes, students intern at CHU Fes University Hospital. The current specialties available for internship in Fes are Nephrology, Neurosurgery, Cardiology, Pediatrics, and Oncology.  In Marrakesh, the internship placement program is in the Department of Neurosurgery at Mohammed VI University Hospital, Cadi Ayyad University.   Marrakesh placements will be very similar to those in Fes.  Students will be divided into to gruops.  Group 1 will intern first in Fes for 2 weeks and then in Marrakesh for 2 weeks.  Group 2 will intern first in Marraeksh for 2 weeks and then in Fes for 2 weeks.  Both grups will join together for a mid-month weekend excursion and an excursion at the end of the progam.  All students then will have the opportunity to intern at two hospitals in two Moroccan cities.

Upon successful completion of the program, students will be awarded certificates of clinical hours.  All students are required to submit a weekly report and end project presentation.  The internships are observational and not hands on, as they are open to students second semester freshman and up.  Students will experience first hand the rich Moroccan culture.  Planned activities are scheduled every weekend during the visit.
