As a Physical Therapist, Dr. Becker’s career has allowed her to participate in numerous professional roles; such as clinician, business owner, hospital director and academician, joining the College of Staten Island in 1992. She was the Director of Clinical Education and Deputy Chair in the Physical Therapy department for 22 years. As the Director of Clinical Education (DCE), she secured 227 Physical Therapy education contracts which equates to more than 500 actual clinical sites nationwide. From 2014-2017, she became the Interim Founding Dean of the School of Health Sciences at CSI. She now returns to the department of Physical Therapy resuming her role as the Director of Clinical Education.
Dr. Becker has received numerous awards and professional honors in her field including the “Unsung Hero” Community Service Award from the Staten Island Not-For-Profit Association, the Staten Island Community Health Hero Award, The Richmond University Medical Center “Commitment to Excellence Award,” and the New York Physical Therapy Association Appreciation Award. In addition, she has been an active member in the American Physical Therapy Association, serving on a variety of committees and held positions on the state and national level.
Dr. Becker continues her research in the areas of clinical education and health promotion as she currently is involved in two ongoing studies (“The DCE Position: A Life’s Aspiration or a Life Sentence” and “The Healthy CSI Student Project” a component being depression screening on College campuses).
