Costa Rica is a country located in Central America, ranked as one of the most visited international destinations in this region. One of Costa Rica’s main sources of income is tourism. Costa Rica is a democratic and peaceful country and it has not had an army since the year 1948.
Although the country is small and it covers only 0.03 percent of the surface of the globe, it proudly shelters 5 percent of the existing biodiversity in the entire world. Twenty six percent of the country is composed of conservation and natural protected territory.
This unique 3- week program will allow nursing students to observe clinics and hospitals within Costa Rica, primarily in the capital city of San Jose. Studying
In collaboration with the nursing and medical programs at the Universidad de Iberoamerica (UNIBE) students will have both practical learning experiences as well as partake in Spanish language classes that will apply to nursing and the health sciences. This will be an intensive program with classes daily for the three weeks.
Living
Participants will be staying with host families that have been selected by the international office at UNIBE. Meals are included. Upon acceptance into the program, students will need to confirm participation with a $500 check payable to The College of Staten Island.
Exploring
San Jose is a fascinating city with many areas to explore. From the National Theater to the Museum of Gold, you’ll never run out of things to see or do. In addition, Costa Rica has an extensive bus system that is easy to navigate allowing for you to explore beyond San Jose and UNIBE can help arranging a number of trips around the country including visits to Arenal Volcano, La Paz Waterfall Gardens, Manuel Antonia National Park, and Tortuga Island.

Not included: In addition to the cost of the program, students need to pay CSI Tuition directly to the bursar. For in-state, this is approximately $1,770; Airfare: $650 (estimated); additional meals: $200 (estimated)

January 3: Arrive in San Jose; Check in with host families
January 4: Orientation with UNIBE staff; First Day of academic program
January 10: One-day tour of nearby volcano
Thurs, January 21: Last day of academic program: Farewell dinner
January 23: Return flight to NY
