Lewis Dimmick specializes in teaching first-year writing, working to engage beginning college students in meaningful and equitable writing instruction.
Inspired by Paulo Friere’s assertion that “education is politics,” his class is shaped as a democratic project, where students collaborate on curriculum design and their voices are centered in the classroom experience.
A former working musician, his first book, THIS MUSIC: Pieces on Heavy Metal, Punk Rock, and Hardcore Punk, was published by Wardance Records in 2013.
Lewis is also committed to community outreach, currently serving as a writing mentor in the Visible Ink program at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
