Professor Vaishampayan joined the Engineering Science and Physics faculty in Fall 2014 after many years at AT&T Labs-Research, where he was a Distinguished Member of Technical Staff. At AT&T he also served as the head of the Communication Sciences Research Department. His department was responsible for fundamental research in wireless communications, networking research at physical, link and network layers, and video and audio communication. Prior to joining AT&T he was a tenured Associate Professor of Electrical Engineering at Texas A&M University. His research interests are in the mathematical foundations of communications, signal processing and information theory. He served on the editorial board of the IEEE Transactions of Information Theory, from 2004-2007, and has served on numerous IEEE technical program committees and NSF review panels. He is a Fellow of the IEEE.
