Central Receiving is open Monday through Friday from 8am to 4 pm. Central Receiving assures that one unit within the College is responsible for acceptance and delivery of items ordered by Academic and Administrative Offices through the Purchasing unit. The Central Receiving unit serves as a check and balance of the Purchasing function by its control of inventory flow into the College. Signed receiving reports certifying that a department has received items ordered in good condition is one of the documents required by Accounts Payable prior to proceeding with payment to a vendor.
The staff of Central Receiving will receive shipments into the college. They log all shipments received and prepare them for delivery to the recipients. They will directly deliver the received merchandise to the recipient department or make arrangements with B&G via work-order request for items to bulky to be delivered by the unit.
Central Receiving accepts on average 100 packages per day from package delivery services (UPS, FedEX, etc.) and three to four truck deliveries. In addition to delivering the majority of these items received, Central Receiving also delivers office supplies, paper and printed material from the print shop/duplicating center to the end user offices.
Please note that in our College wide effort and commitment to recycling, Central Receiving collects printer toner cartridges and prepares them for shipment to a recycler. Please join us in our efforts and forward all your spent toner cartridges via interoffice mail or directly to a Central Receiving staff member the next time you see them.
Central Receiving ships out only College related items and then only purchased items being returned to the manufacturer or supplier for repair or for replacement. In any case, be sure that you have previously obtained a return material authorization (RMA) number or some pre-approval from the addressee prior to shipping the item back. Package the item, preferably in its original packing, assuring that it will not be damaged in transit. Be sure that you label the package correctly with all pertinent information required by the receiver of the package and be sure to include the RMA or any “attention to” information necessary in your labeling. You may bring the item to Central Receiving in building 1M or you may call to arrange for a pick-up of the item from your area by calling extension 3228.
UPS (Overnight Delivery) - form
The College has a contract with the United Parcel Service to ship letters overnight. This service is provided through Central Receiving and not the mailroom. To send mail via UPS overnight delivery, the sending department must have authorized approval from the Chairperson or Dean in charge of the department and a properly filled out request form(Yellow Card). You must also use a UPS overnight envelope (your letter in its envelope will go into the UPS envelope). You will print a label using UPS Campus ship. Once properly prepared and authorized, you may bring your overnight letter along with the completed request form to Central receiving for processing or you may call extension 3228 for a pick-up from your area. In any case, the letter must be in Central Receiving by 03:30 PM to be processed and picked-up by UPS by 04:00 PM. If you can’t get the letter to Central Receiving by 03:30 PM call operational services and we will do our best to accommodate.
