COVID-19 Admissions Policy Modifications

Online Coursework and Labs: Our program will accept online pre-requisite courses taken in regionally accredited institutions during the spring and summer semesters of 2020.
Observation Hours: Given that our deadline is in October 2020, applicants will have to complete the minimal requirement of 100 observation hours. However, if applicant cannot complete the observation hours due to inability to find licensed PT to shadow or due to continuation of social distancing or self-quarantine, our program will accept less than minimal or waive the observation hours completely.
GRE Testing: We will accept the new-at-home GRE testing being offered by ETS.
Transcripts: Our program will accept unofficial transcripts from applicants who are unable to obtain an official transcript from their registrar’s office due to campus closure.
Interviews: If in-person interviews would not be possible by November 2020, the program will use remote interview using online videoconferencing or phone.

Updated Office Hours

During the time that the College is utilizing remote instruction, our School of Health Sciences departmental offices may have reduced hours and staff may be working remotely. If there is no answer to phone, rather than leaving a voicemail, please send a detailed email to the faculty person, chair, or dean as appropriate. If you prefer a call-back, please include good times to reach you with your call-back information.

Physical Therapy Department Overview

The Department of Physical therapy values comments, suggestions, and concerns that might arise outside of the College’s due process. Students and other individuals seeking to raise such a concern or file a complaint that falls outside of the due process may contact either of the following individuals: the Chair of the Physical Therapy Department and Program Director, Dr. Zaghloul Ahmed, 718.982.3153, zaghloul.ahmed@csi.cuny.edu, or the Dean of School of Health Sciences, Dr. Marcus Tye, 718.982.3690, marcus.tye@csi.cuny.edu.

Physical Therapists are healthcare professionals focused on helping members of the community restore mobility through various treatment modalities.  The Clinical Doctorate of Physical Therapy (DPT), the entry level degree required for Physical Therapists, has been offered by our program since 1995. Our program provides an excellent clinical foundation at a CUNY tuition with the promise of a rewarding career as a physical therapist.

The Doctor of Physical Therapy Program at The College of Staten Island/CUNY accreditation status with the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE) has been reaffirmed for 10 years, 1111 North Fairfax Street, Alexandria, Virginia 22314; telephone: 703.706.3245; email: accreditation@apta.org; website: http://www.capteonline.org.
