 The Music Program

The Music Program at the College of Staten Island offers comprehensive training in all areas of music and serves as a foundation for graduate study of any specialized aspect of the field. CSI graduates have been accepted to and have graduated from such prestigious graduate programs as New York University, William Paterson University, as well as excellent CUNY graduate programs at Hunter, Queens, and Brooklyn College. Many of our students have also entered the professional field as working musicians and music teachers. Our graduates in composition have won international competitions and their works have been featured in prestigious New York cultural venues including the Look and Listen Festival, the Richmond Choral Society, Staten Island Philharmonic, and the Musical Chairs Chamber Ensemble.

CSI offers the following undergraduate degrees in Music:

CSI also offers a Music Minor as well as Gen-Ed approved courses for the non-major. As with most programs at the College of Staten Island, satisfying the General Education curriculum requires much of the first semesters of study. If you intend to major or minor in music it is imperative to meet with a music advisor in order to register for pre-major courses in addition to Gen-Ed courses.

The College of Staten Island has state of the art performance venues in association with CSI’s Center for the Arts plus a functioning Computer Lab and Recording Studio which all enhance the learning experience for music majors.
