These easy-to-follow, semester-by-semester guides align academic requirements with career readiness activities to support on-time graduation and prepare students for successful careers or advanced study. With built-in career planning, the ultimate goal is for students to earn degrees that lead directly to fulfilling careers with competitive salaries.

Each Career Degree Map includes career milestones aligned with the skills and career paths relevant to each major. These maps leverage a wide range of on-campus resources, including such as student organizations, research opportunities, career services, partnerships with local industries, and the CSI Alumni Network.

Faculty, academic advisors, and Career Services staff provide real-time guidance on academic progress and career preparation, helping students navigate challenges as they arise. By embedding career readiness activities into each semester, career planning becomes a natural and consistent part of the student experience.

All Career Degree Maps at CSI include a set of essential career milestones, grounded in national best practices and CUNY standards. These steps are more than suggestions—they are the foundation for launching a successful and rewarding career after graduation. We strongly recommend that all CSI undergraduate students complete the following during their academic journey:

1. Access your Handshake Account with Career Services: Access CSI’s official career platform to explore jobs, internships, events, and personalized career support.
2. Draft or Build Your Resume: Begin documenting your academic achievements, campus involvement, and work experience to create a strong, competitive resume.
3. Join a Student Club or Organization: Get involved on campus to build your network, develop soft skills, and gain leadership experience.
4. Create a LinkedIn Account:  Establish a professional online presence and begin building your network early.
5. Draft a Cover Letter: Practice writing effective cover letters tailored to internships, fellowships, and entry-level job opportunities.
6. Find a Mentor: Connect with a faculty member, advisor, alum, or industry professional for personalized career guidance.
7. Apply for Internships: Gain hands-on experience in your field to enhance your resume and build career confidence.
