The purpose of this group is to encourage a stronger presence in the sustainability movement at the College of Staten Island. This group will be the voice of the student body when it comes to the ideation and implementation of various sustainability initiatives that will push our college to become more environmentally conscience.

Campus Sustainability and the Organization That is Paving the Way

Green Garden Club

Our mission is to increase sustainability of the campus by creating and sustaining a   community garden that provides the campus center auxiliary service with fruits and   vegetables. Instead of relying entirely on produce brought in by delivery trucks from   distant farms, we incorporate students from a diverse array of CSI clubs and   organizations into a volunteer community network system where the time that they put   into maintaining the garden is returned in their own plot for themselves. In return, CSI   alleviates some of its carbon footprint, students gain a sense of stewardship and reward.

Sustainability Club Founder/President:

Natalia Sandor

In 2018, Natalia Sandor, founder and president of the newly created Sustainability Club was a Junior at the Macaulay Honors College at CSI. She completed a MS in Business Management.

She is originally from Long Island where she owns a wholesale ice cream sandwich company called Sand Bars Handcrafted. Natalia also played Division III soccer and enjoys writing. Natalia is involved in business development and administration work alongside with running her own business.

Thanks to Natalia's initiative and hard work, CSI students, staff and faculty can still attend different types of sustainability-related events today, such as workshops, greenhouses, and compost.

Keair E. Brown

In 2023, Keair Brown became the President of the Green Garden Club. She is currently completing both, a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology/Anthropology and a Master of Arts in Liberal Studies.

Keair has been voted on to my second term as the President of the Green Garden club where she lead a group of my peers in growing and cultivating a variety of plant species along with beautifying the campus through hands-on activities.
