Assessment
Assessment is the collection and review of information to inform practice (formative) or provide evidence of effectiveness (summative). It answers questions such as “What are my students learning?”, or “Are the services provided meeting the needs of the students served?”.
Academic Assessment focuses on the extent to which CSI students achieve learning outcomes both at the College- and program- level. Academic and administrative, educational, and student support (AES) assessment focuses on the extent to which the College has strong operational processes and/or learning outcomes. How these goals are assessed will vary and depend on the goals and the particulars of the specific programs and units.
In general, the responsibility for conducting assessment belongs to the academic departments and AES unit directors. The results of assessment conducted should be documented and shared with stakeholders to use as evidence for strategic planning and resources allocation. The results of assessment for Institutional Effectiveness are not to be used for personnel decisions nor to affect the relationship of an individual student to the College.
