Mission goal:
The College of Staten Island (CSI) Bike Program is dedicated to providing a sustainable, affordable, and healthy transportation solution for students, faculty, and staff. Our mission is to enhance campus mobility by offering convenient access to bicycles, reducing reliance on cars, and supporting a greener environment.

- Improve Student Commuting – Help students, facaulty and staff to travel efficiently between classes, campus facilities, and on-campus transit stations, ensuring timely and stress-free arrivals.

- Foster Health & Wellness – Support physical activity and mental well-being by making biking an accessible and enjoyable option for the CSI community.

Bike@CSI
The Bike@CSI is a pilot bike program initiated by the Office of Sustainable Community Planning to improve mobility on campus. CSI Sustainability partnered with NYCDOT and Statewide Mobility Services to bring this low-cost program to the campus.
Hours of operation:
Bikes are available from 9 AM to 5 PM Monday to Friday. Bikes can be checked in and checked out at the 3 A Building, Parking Services office.
Can you take the bike home?
No, currently, the bikes are limited to the CSI campus grounds only.
Registration
- Go to building 3A CSI: A quick guide on how to sign up for the Bike@CSI program
- Look for the Bike@CSI program sign
- Choose subscription type
- Sign the official waiver
- Watch the mandated bike safety video
- Information you will need to provide:
- Full name
- Email address
- EMPL ID
- Phone Number
- Emergency Contact
Fees
Are there hidden fees?
- No, there are no hidden fees. Fees only have to be paid if you don't return the bike.
What happens if my bike is stolen?
There is a fee of $370 for lost or stolen bikes. We will provide quality locks to ensure they aren’t stolen. Please watch the video below on how to lock your bike safely.
Are refunds available?
- No, but you can carry the payment to the next semester.

Pre-Ride Quick Check/ABC
Check if the tires have enough air in your tires. Watch the video how to do it.
Check if the brakes can slow down the bike to a complete stop.
Check if the chain is lubricated and turning properly with the gears.

Wearing a helmet is not required in NYC for ages 14 and over but it is highly recommended. Bicycle helmets save lives and prevent head injuries.
A bike lock and key will be provided to your with your bike rental. Check out the video on how to secure the bike at the bike racks.

Who to call if there is an emergency?
It is campus policy that you contact Public Safety for any emergency related to the CSI campus.

The use of the BLUE EMERGENCY boxes located around campus is strongly advised.
If someone experiences a Medical Emergency:
- Notify Public Safety at 718 982 2111 or dial 2111 directly from any lobby phone
- Notify 911 if the patient or nurse requests an ambulance
- Notify the Health Center at 718-982-3045
- Do not move the patient

Donations
Donations of bikes and bike equipment are highly encouraged, since the program isn’t funded by the college. BIKE@CSI is an initiative of the Office of Sustainable Community Planning, DOT, and Transportation Alternatives.
How can you donate to the program? Please email: sustainability@csi.cuny.edu
Donations of all types are accepted by The Sustainability Office, including but not limited to bikes and tools.

The donor of a bike will receive a 2-semester-long subscription. This cannot be delayed, and if the bike is donated in the middle of a semester, it will count towards next semester's subscriptions.
Donations of tools will not result in any incentives, but are greatly appreciated.
