An Overview of NSO
Welcome to the College of Staten Island!
The College of Staten Island (CSI) requires all first-year incoming students to attend NSO, a comprehensive mandatory one-day program, presented by multiple offices and departments on campus. NSO is an opportunity for students to become engaged with the college community and gain the knowledge necessary for a successful first-year experience.
NSO is designed to help students to become familiar with the CSI Campus, CSI’s academic programs, what is expected of students at CSI, and provide students with information regarding the many support services and resources available to them at CSI. NSO is also an opportunity for students to meet other incoming students, faculty, staff, and upperclassmen Orientation Leaders (OLs), while being introduced to college life at CSI. The overall goal of NSO is to provide students with a sense of belonging and connection to the campus community, to provide students with the tools to become responsible learners and college students, develop partnerships and effective communication skills, and ease students’ transition to CSI.
At NSO, students will formally be welcomed to CSI, engage in teambuilding activities among other incoming students, and have the opportunity to learn more about co-curricular options and involvement on campus through the Office of Student Life. Students will also be provided with more information about important CSI policies and procedures. During NSO, students will also be introduced to campus resources including: The Counseling Center, the Center for Career and Professional Development, the Center for Global Engagement, Office of Accessibility Services, the Office of Academic Support, the Library, and Athletics. Additionally, students are also provided with a free lunch during the Lunch and Learn session.
Important information for students entering for the Fall 2022 semester
New Student Orientation (NSO) is an important first step in your journey at CSI. The overall goal of NSO is to provide students with a sense of belonging and connection to the campus community with a fun interactive program. The first year of college can be overwhelming, but at NSO, you learn about all of the resources available to help you succeed.
Unfortunately, due to Covid-19, we will be unable to conduct in person NSOs this summer. Instead, we will move to a virtual format similar to vCART.
Like vCART, you will access virtual New Student Orientation (vNSO) via Blackboard. You will receive an email communication from New Student Orientation with directions on how to complete vNSO. Please feel free to contact us at Orientation@csi.cuny.edu if you have any questions or concerns.
All incoming students must complete vNSO in order to register for the Spring 2023 semester.
