Telepresence Robot:The Danny Double is a Telepresence Robot. It’s called the Double because it’s an extension of the user. As long as a person has access to the internet (from a computer, laptop or tablet, or smartphone) from anywhere in the world, and are given the necessary permissions, they can connect to the Double. You would be able to see that person through the Double’s iPad face, and hear them as well. Through the arrow buttons on a keyboard or screen, the user can easily maneuver the Double so that it can navigate a room, hallway, etc… This is great if you cannot be physically present at a place or event.
Virtual Reality: At the College of Staten Island, we try to provide an immersive learning experience using virtual reality (VR) technology, which can provide an environment where students can interact with 3D model worlds offering them an opportunity to engage and improve their retention of material taught in classrooms, and be exposed to “real life” situations.
- Computer Availabllity: The availability of computers in 1L202, 1L212, 1C213, and 3N217, as well the 3 floors of the Library, in real time, refreshed every 15 seconds.
- Bus Tracking System : From you mobile device or computer you can see ferry shuttle arrival and departure times.
- Wayfinder: (In progress) Our latest initiative includes a low cost solution to assist students with navigating our 204 acre campus. Using Google Maps, the College Community can navigate to their desired location by following the “walking” directions. Taking it a step further, QR codes were created for each building providing the Directory of individuals in the building.
