Information Technology Services has been working with CUNY Central to upgrade to a new VoIP telephone system.

To ensure a smooth and efficient rollout across campus, phones will be replaced in phases. Due to the size of the campus and the number of devices involved, the new phones will be upgraded at different times. During this transition period, offices with old Avaya phones can still communicate successfully with offices upgraded to new VoIP phones. The old and new phones systems will operate simultaneously until the distribution of the VOIP phones is complete.
IT staff will follow up to ensure everything is working properly following the installation. Please note that your phone number will remain the same. Internal calls will continue to function as usual using 4-digit dialing or the full phone number. Dialing off campus numbers, dialing 9 is no longer needed on the new phones.
Will my phone number change?
Your phone number will remain the same.
 
How to make a phone call with new system?
  • Internal calls - will continue to function as usual using 4-digit dialing or the full phone number.
  • Dialing off-campus - dialing 9 is no longer needed on the new phones. (You will need to dial 1-xxx-xxx-xxxx)
How to dial someone who has not been converted over? 
During this transition period, offices with old Avaya phones can still communicate successfully with offices upgraded to new VoIP phones. The old and new phone systems will operate simultaneously until the distribution of the VOIP phones is complete.
 
How to check voice mail and change your away message?
Your default greeting has been set to your first and last name stating that you are not available. Voice mail will still appear as an audio file in your email. 
 
Can I still use Teams to make a phone call?
Please note: Jabber will be replacing the phone functionality including dialing and voice mail that is currently being used in Teams. Other functions in Teams will remain the same.
 
What is Jabber?  
Cisco Jabber is a communication application that allows you to make and receive phone calls and collaborate with colleagues directly from your computer.  This application has been installed on your office computer.
